Finally a woman with a brain is on a diet

Carrie Fisher is on Jenny Craig. On her blog, which is being published on the Jenny Craig website as well, Fisher attacks the subject with her usual moxie and grace, and hits the nail on the head. Her reason for trying to lose weight is exactly the reason I’m trying again, too: no one takes fat people seriously.

Trust me. I’ve worked my ass off for 30 years, and I’ve almost always been the most hard-working, smartest chick in the room. The most hard-working, passed over chick in the room, too. Because no one wants to look at me. Not even my doctors.

But they don’t offer much concrete help, either. There is a time when the old, “eat more vegetables, lean protein and whole grains, and exercise” spiel goes nowhere when that plan, literally, gets you nowhere. I’ve eaten pretty well for a long time now. And here I am, a big woman. Now that I work from home, I am seeing the marked difference in how I am approached in my new work team. I am rewarded for being the hard-working smart chick—because not many people have seen me, to judge me from the physical perspective.

Carrie’s doing Jenny; I’m doing an Optifast program with advanced support, including vitamins and appetite suppressants and weekly education, at Peak Nutrition and Weight Loss in Apex/Holly Springs. May the hairphones be with us.
